On Sunday, the site reached capacity after less than half an hour in operation. Officials are administering 350 tests each day before closing. FEMA is providing 2,500 tests each week.
Cars began lining up as early as 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, the site’s second day in operation. Lines to enter the facility have stretched as far as three miles down the road.
A second state-run testing center opened at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel Monday morning. Cars backed up onto the Garden State Parkway as they waited for its 8 a.m. opening time.
There are also privately-run testing centers in Riverside, Secaucus, and Morristown.
To be tested, patients are required to be showing signs of the coronavirus, including a fever of at least 99.6 degrees Fahrenheit, shortness of breath and a cough. A prescription is not required, but those who have one should bring it with them, officials said.
There are over 1,900 known cases of coronavirus and 20 deaths of Sunday afternoon, Gov. Phil Murphy said. Officials expect those numbers to continue to rise as more testing centers are opened.
